A "hole" in the gigantic sun observed by NASA

The sun is not a great shape. A huge coronal hole was observed between 28 and 31 May at the surface by the Solar Dynamics Observator a solar observatory developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Despite its size, the Agency argues that this phenomenon has little risk to Earth. Communications could still be disrupted for two months.

A "cold" area was detected on the surface of the sun, in its most distant atmospheric crown: it's a "coronal hole." This is the strongest in more than a year, according to NASA. Coronal holes are causing quite violent solar winds. These plasma flow formed ions and electrons through the solar system and the planets that affect residents, including the Earth, and can cause electromagnetic storms.

According to NASA, the coronal hole should not cause mere auroras and possibly disrupt telecommunications, such as GPS or the operation of mobile phones in the next two months. In 1989, the solar wind had caused strong electromagnetic storms in Quebec: power cuts were numerous and the satellites were even disturbed.
